Oh, boy. I remember using Firefox 1.x when Internet Explorer 6 was still out. At the time, I did not care to change browsers due to the hassle that it would incur. But the first time that I had used FF, it blew Internet Explorer out of the water when it came to speed. I even tried to do a series of minor tests just to see if my eyes were deceiving me. I cleared cookies, cleared cache, chose random sites to load, and FF would always load quicker.
Flabbergasted, I immediately switched to FF. It had a pop-up blocker add-on, and tabbed browsing (I think). With the ability to change themes, and add extra extensions, FF was here to stay on my computer.
Then Firefox 2 came out, and suddenly…something changed. Whether it was feature bloating, or my overloading of extensions, FF would always be either slow or eat up large chunks of my computer’s memory. Even with no extensions, FF was still somewhat buggy. Even worst, Microsoft finally made a decent browser (IE7). But I would not abandon it, as I depended on several add-ons for comfort. Certain built in functions such as session restore and incremental find were just useful to pass up.
However, now Firefox 3 is out. I just hope it’s a pimpin’ browser.
